Two films that focus on the themes of religious intolerance and racism are the subject of a special session on Thursday evening, part of the 36th Fantasporto - International Festival of Oporto Cinema.
Both films are focused on the persecution of the Jews during World War II and are based on real events.
"Exodus To Shanghai" (2015), directed by Anthony Hickcox tells the story of Dr. Ho, the Chinese consul in Vienna, who granted, against the instructions of his government, visas to thousands of Jews so that they could flee to Shanghai (China), when Germany announced in 1938 annexation of Austria.
Along with this movie, you will see a short film (17 minutes) French "Ensemble", by Mohamed Fekrane (2012), which tells the story of the Imam of the Mosque of Paris who saved more than a thousand young Jews from the Nazi occupying Paris. The imam hid theem, protected them by mixing them with fake muslim identities in the Islamic community of Paris and teaching them arabic. To better ensure their safety taught them Arabic, Islamic prayers and gave them new identities.
These stories teach us that all races and religions can live together in peace, challenging the blindness of racial prejudice.
The two films, which are included in the section non-competitive 'Premiere & Panorama' Fantasporto will be presented in the meeting entitled "Fantasporto for Peace" in the Small Auditorium of Rivoli, at 21:15. March 3rd.
The 36th Fantasporto - Oporto Film Festival, which began on 22 February, will run until March 6, at the Rivoli Theatre in Porto, with 161 films from 40 countries representing the four inhabited continents, with about 41 world premieres and European and with the presence of dozens of film personalities (actors, directors, producers, distributors) from all over the world.

EARLY ENTRY DEADLINE: OCTOBER 30TH, 2016!
Fantasporto’2017 | Oporto International Film Festival announces our Call for Film Entries for the 37th annual festival, running February 24th till March 4th.
This Call is for Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi features and shorts in the Fantasy competition. The Director’s Week is for features only, in all genres except fantasy.
Deadlines for Entries for 2017 edition are October 30th (Early Call) and December 5th (Final Call).
Films can be submitted now using the film submission website www.fantasporto.com
Fantasporto enjoys incredible loyalty and support from the large film-appreciating community all over the World. In the last edition, Fantasporto was attended by over 20,000 enthusiastic genre film fans and over 200 members of the film press and industry.
Considered in 2015 as the first of the independent film festivals in the world by TRIPPER, Fantasporto is among the top film festivals for the discovery of new talent, having revealed countless of now famous directors, producers and actors.
The World Heritage City by UNESCO of Porto, twice considered Europe’s Best Touristic Destination, is another factor adding interest . Founded in 1981, the 37th edition has the support of the Portuguese State.

Press Conference & Workshop with Glória Perez
TV Globo Portugal has just confirmed to Fantasporto the presence of multi-award-winning screenwriter of television series and telenovelas Glória Perez in Oporto.
The screenwriter will be at Rivoli to present her "Double Identity" series and to hold a workshop on writing for television.
Glória Perez will give her Workshop on Friday (March 3rd), at 5:00 PM, on Floor 3 of Rivoli; On Saturday, at 12:00 will give, in the same place, a press conference dedicated to the presentation of the TV series "Double Identity".
Actress Mariana Ximenes will present her TV series "Supermax" at 6:00 p.m. on the 4th. She will also be present at the Press Conference to be held at 12:00 on the 3rd Floor of Rivoli.
Both Glória Pérez and Mariana Ximenes will be present at the Official Closing Session of the 37th Fantasporto - Porto International Film Festival at 9:00 pm on Saturday, March 4 at the Grande Auditorium Manoel de Oliveira do Rivoli.

Workshop with Mariana Ximenes and author Glória Perez from the series 'Double Identity'
The actress and the author will be present on March 3 and 4 at the Municipal Theater Rivoli, in Porto, to present the new fantastic series of TV Globo at the festival.
Globo and Fantasporto invite the OCS to a press conference with actress Mariana Ximenes, Bruna from the series 'Supermax', and author Glória Perez, who signs the series 'Double Identity'.
The Workshop will take place at 5:00 pm on March 3 and will be coordinated by Gloria Perez
The press conference will take place on March 4, at 12:00 pm, at the Teatro Municipal Rivoli, in Oporto.
About the series being shown:
Globo will have a prominent presence in the 37th edition of Fantasporto - Porto International Film Festival -, at Teatro Municipal Rivoli. On March 4, between 4:00 pm and 7:00 p.m., three Globo series are shown: 'Supermax', 'Amorteamo' and 'Double Identity'. Although they are three plots with completely different plots and arguments, the series have in common not only the suspense and the fantastic character, but also characteristics of cinematographic production.
Set in Recife at the beginning of the 20th century, 'Amorteamo' (16h00) accompanies several love triangles linked by death. A bride is abandoned at the altar and decides to commit suicide, but ends up calling upon herself a terrible curse. To recover her beloved, she returns from the world of the dead bringing with her other deceased local inhabitants. What nobody knows is that their real intent is to settle past accounts.
'Dupla Identidad' (17h00), signed by Glória Perez, revolves around an investigation into a mysterious and insinuating serial killer in a case with political implications. Everyone is looking for the killer, but he is much closer than they think. The series counts with the participation of actors like Bruno Gagliasso, Débora Falabella, Luana Piovani, Marcello Novaes, among others.
Completing the range of Globo series that appear in the sample of Fantasporto comes 'Supermax', where actress Mariana Ximenes wears the skin of Bruna. In a mixture between fiction and reality, the series narrates the trajectory of 12 participants of a reality show recorded in a deactivated high security prison, located in the Amazon Forest. But the participants were not chosen by chance: each of them committed a serious crime at a certain point in life. Only one of them will win the prize of R $ 2 million reais, however, for this will have to leave alive Supermax. On the first day everything happens well, until the program's production disappears mysteriously, leaving them confined to their own fate, having to deal with strange and supernatural events.

Fantasporto 2017 announces its awards
The Spanish film "ReAlive" by Mateo Gil is the great winner of the Official Section of Fantastic Cinema of the 37th Fantasporto. This film, about a man with an incurable disease that froze his body and is awakened 60 years later when Medicine already has a solution for his case, also obtained the award for Best Story.
The Special Film Jury Special Prize was awarded to the Franco-Filipino co-production "Saving Sally" by the Filipino Avid Liongoren, where animation and the real image intersect in a comedy about the passage into adulthood where they are treated with delicacy Very serious matters.
The international Fantasporto Jury specified that the prize for this film is due to the fact that "Saving Sally" tells "a simple love story in an imaginative and creative way".
The Jury also decided to distinguish with a Special Mention the Brazilian film "The Repartition of Time", by Santiago Dellape, a tale of the imagination about time travel in satirical register. This film also won the Audience Award (see "Other Awards").
Irishman Liam Gavin won the Best Director Award for his film "A Dark Song," which also garnered Catherine Walker the Best Actress Award.
The Best Actor Award went to Frederick Koehler's performance in "The Evil Within" by late Andrew Getty.
"The Darkest Dawn," by Britain's Drew Casson, won the award for best visual effects.
The award for Best Fantastic Short Film went to "Cenizo" by Spanish Jon Mikel Caballero about a young priest who is sent to a remote island to fight against supernatural forces. In this category the Jury decided to award with a Special Mention the short French "Garden Party", of Theophile Dufresne, Florian Babikian, Gabriel Grapperon, Lucas Navarro, Vincent Bayoux and victor Claire.
FANTASPORTO 2017 - "PAMILYA ORDINARYO", BY EDUARDO W. ROY JR. (PHILIPPINES) WINS Directors' Week
Filipino cinema is still high on Fantasporto, having won several awards in recent years. This year, at the 27th Directors Week, the grand prize went to Eduardo W. Roy Jr.'s "Pamilya Ordinaryo" ("Common People") about a couple of homeless youth parents who live off street robbery until one Day they are the victims, robbed of their most precious possession, which forces them to fight against the rich and powerful. This film also won the award for Best Actress, attributed to the protagonist Hasmine Kilip.
The Special Jury Prize in this competition goes to the Egyptian film "Sins of the Flesh" by Khaled el Agar, a tragic story of oppression and death against the backdrop of the January 2011 revolution that led to the deposition of Hosni Mubarak and To the rise and fall of Mohamed Morsi.
The protagonist of this film, Nahed El Sebaï, won the Prize for Best Actress, attributed ex-aequo with Hasmine Kilip, protagonist of the aforementioned Philippine film "Pamilya Ordinaryo".
The award for Best Actor was won by South Korean Park Ji-Il for his performance in Kim Ki Duk's "The Net."
South Korean Kim Jee-Woon, who has won his last four films for three special Jury Prizes and a Festival Grand Prix, this time won the Best Director award for "The Age of Shadows," a Intrigue and past action in the meanders of South Korean resistance to the Japanese occupation during World War II.
The Best Argument prize for this section of Fantasporto went to Iván Szabó and Roland Vranik, authors of the script for the Hungarian film "The Citizen", one of the great films of the festival
KIM KI DUK WITH "THE NET", RETURNS TO WIN THE SECTION 'ORIENT EXPRESS'
In the 'Orient Express' section, the winner was South Korea's 'The Net', by our well-known and multi-award-winning Kim Ki Duk, a play about a North Korean fisherman who crashes his boat and heads to South Korea , Who tries to turn him into a spy before "returning" him to North Korea.
In this section, the Special Jury Prize goes to "Dearest Sister," Latie's debut film by Mattie Do about a young peasant woman traveling to the capital of the country, Vientiane, to take care of a rich cousin who lost her Vision, but gained the faculty of communicating with the dead ...
The international jury of this section made reference to the film "Saving Sally", by Avid Liongoren, a Filipino / French production, by the technique used and by his artistic direction.

The Spanish did it again
The Spanish film “ReAlive”, a science fiction saga just won the Best Fantasy Film Award of the 37th Oporto International Film Festival - Fantasporto 2017. The film was directed by Mateo Gil, the writer of such films as “Vanilla Sky” (with Tom Cruise) ou “Agora” (with Rachel Weiz). “Realive” is about a man with an incurable disease whose body is frozen, waking up many years later, hoping Medicine already has a solution for his case. The film also took the Best Screenplay Award.
The Best Director Award went to Irish director Liam Gavin for his film “A Dark Song”, the story of a mother searching for her dead daughter in an empty house. This film was also granted the Best Actress Award for Catherine Walker’s acting. Frederick Koehler impressed the jury with his performance in “The Evil Within” by Andrew Getty, and took the Best Actor Award. The Best Visual Effects Award went to Drew Casson and his sci-fi adventure, “The Darkest Dawn”. The Special Award of this fantasy jury went to “Saving Sally”, by Philipino director Avid Liongoren, a hugely entertaining feature in which live action is mixed with animation, approaching very serious issues such as domestic violence. “Punch the Clock” (A Repartição do Tempo), by Brazilian Santiago Dellape took a Special Mention for his vision of time travelling and “Cenizo” by Jon Mikel Caballero won Best Fantasy Short.
In the Directors Week competition the winner was the Phillipino film “Ordinary People” by Eduardo W. Roy, a street drama about a very young couple whose baby is stolen and given away to rich people. The Special Award of this general competition went to the Egypcian “Sins of the Flesh” by Khaled el Agar which also took the Best Actress Award (for Nahed em Sebai who presented the film in the festival). This feature is a love and adulterous story of a young woman set in the Spring of 2011 that took to the deposition of Mubarak. The South Korean actor Park Ji-Il, took the top award for “The Net”, by Kim Ki Duk. Also from Korea came the winner of the Best Director Award of the Directors Week, Kim Jee-Woon for his “The Age of Shadows” and Hungarian Iván Szabó and Roland Vranik took the Best Screenplay in the saga of a black man who seeks to become a citizen but is always prevented from achieving his goal.
The Audience Award was for “Saving Sally”, and the Critics Award went to “Division 19” by Suzie Halewood (UK) and and “Caught” by Jamie Patterson (UK).
Fantasporto, chosen as one of the ten reasons to visit Oporto, recently elected as the Best European Destination, welcomed several world premieres and over 200 foreign guests to introduce their films on the stage of the Rivoli Theatre.
